Outdoor Dining Setting – Alloro 9 Piece The Alloro 9 Piece Outdoor Dining Setting is a highly attractive outdoor dining suite, giving that great traditional timber slat look without all the maintenance. Made of a supreme polypropylene & fiberglass resin, characterized by it’s UV and atmospheric resistant qualities and anodized aluminum. This dining set is low maintenance and easy to clean, you’ll get years out of it in New Zealand weather conditions. The table spans 2100mm and extends out to 2800mm. Perfect for when you need to get a few more people or plates around the table at those busy Summer BBQs. Unlike inferior garden furniture that will collect mold, become brittle over time and fade with the sun, the Alloro 9 Piece outdoor dining setting is manufactured with only the highest quality materials. The chairs and top of the table are made of a commercial grade polypropylene & fiberglass resin, the brainchild of it’s Italian design & engineering. This provides incredible resistance to UV light and atmospheric pollutants. The table legs and moving parts are made of commercial grade anodized aluminium – that means they won’t rust, despite the occasional bout of bad weather we get here in New Zealand! Everything used in the construction of this outdoor dining setting is 100% recyclable, anti-static and non-toxic. Not to be confused with the Alloro 7 Piece Outdoor patio dining set, which is smaller at 1400mm extending to 2100mm and only 6 chairs.

  1. The Restaurant Furniture Buying Guide

You've written your business plan, chosen your location, written up your menu, you're thinking about staff and you're eager to get out there and run a successful restaurant. You've got all your bases covered, right?
Furniture is a crucial part of the restaurant experience and is an often overlooked aspect of opening and managing a restaurant. After all, your guests will be spending a great deal of their time getting acquainted with what they're sitting on!
When it comes to buying cafe, bar or restaurant furniture, you've committed to a balancing act. You're juggling comfort, cost, durability, how well everything fits with the theme /atmosphere you're going for, and unfortunately unless your budget is unlimited you may be trading these attributes off against each other. To make life easy, we've put together this comprehensive restaurant furniture buying guide.

Things to keep in mind while shopping

    • Your environment and concept
    • Make sure everything purchased is commercial grade
    • Consider maintenance requirements
    • Dual purpose furniture (i.e. an article that looks in place both outdoors and indoors)

    Restaurant Chairs

Unless your environment and theme require them, armchairs should be disregarded as an option. They often do not fit completely under tables and require further pulling out than their armless counterparts. Armless chairs are much better at accommodating larger patrons.
Consider the lifetime cost - Good chairs aren’t cheap. Buying commercial quality is an absolute must, check warranties, a commercial warranty of 2 years will see more action than a domestic chair of 20 years. A sturdy chair can be reupholstered many times, keeping it looking great at a fraction of the cost of replacing it – decisions like these may involve spending a few extra dollars up front but are the cheaper long term option.

Table Tops Sizing is a very important thing to get right, smaller tables for more romantic settings. Naked table tops will save on laundering and labour costs. It’s also important to remember table tops factor into defining the feel and atmosphere of your restaurant.

Sizing round / square - 600mm square or round can be too small and are probably more suited to coffee shop / café settings where you expect customers to have a coffee and food served on not much more than a small plate.

700mm sq/dia can comfortably accommodate two with full size plates, 800mm sq/dia can sit four with full size plates and cutlery, however this is more comfortable with 900mm sq/dia.

Table Bases – Style and material are your chief concerns when choosing table bases. Heavier table bases may be sturdier and look better, but are much harder to move when catering to larger parties. If the base in question needs to be located outdoors then (depending on the climate / weather where you are) your materials become limited to aluminium or stainless steel. Four leg table bases are far sturdier and less likely to tip than three leg bases.

  2. How to best care for wood furnitureWood furniture goes back thousands of years. With our origins being so tied in with nature itself, it's hardly any wonder why we have such an affinity for wooden furniture. Manipulation of wood into furniture is an art form which differs from metal and other man-made materials we so often use. Wood is naturally porous and often treated with a protective finish, these qualities lead to vastly different maintenance requirements than you may be used to. This article is intended to give tips on the best way to care for wood furniture.

In a commercial environment adhering to these guidelines is even more paramount as cleaning may be as regular as once every half hour - this will accelerate any negative consequences of bad maintenance. Avoiding these common pitfalls when taking care of your wooden furniture will improve it's overall health and longevity.

Tips on taking care of wood furniture

"If it's safe enough for your hands, it's safe enough for the wood"

    • In order to best clean the finish on your wooden furniture it is best to use hand soap or mild dish soap with warm water; if it's safe enough for your hands, its safe enough for the wood. Remove any excess water with a soft cloth. Never clean wood with abrasive chemicals, this will erode the protective finish and expose the raw wood.

    • Invest in a good quality soft paste wax. Follow the directions on the label. These usually consist of applying sparingly, waiting 5 minutes and buffing lightly with a soft cloth. After 45 or so minutes have passed buff again with a bit more enthusiasm. This should bring out a beautiful shine.

    • Keep your wooden furniture out of the sun as best you possibly can, the temperature of sunlight on a beautiful summers day through a window pane can easily get above 60 degrees. This will fade colour, play havoc with the finish, dry out and shrinking the wood over time which will result in cracks.

    • Dry heat such as that from fires, vents or heating units will also dry out and shrink your wooden furniture, which will result in cracks. If you live in an arid climate it is a good idea to use a humidifier in the drier months.

    • You cannot enrich your wood with oils and polishes. Advertisements would have you believe otherwise, but in reality after it has been treated with a protective  finish the wood is sealed, this means polishes and oils will not penetrate it.

    • Chips and scratches can be touched up by carefully matching the colour of shoe polish or felt tip marker.

    How to choose restaurant furniture

When it comes to buying cafe, bar or restaurant furniture, there are a few things to take into consideration. Furniture is as important as any other measure of a good restaurant experience. When searching for furniture for your cafe or restaurant, it's always better to have a concept or theme in mind as to what style will best suit your establishment. We have shared some tips below that will help you choose the right type of furniture for your cafe or restaurant.

    Your environment and concept

What environment are you going for? Your furniture must reflect this theme. Will your restaurant cater mostly to large formal parties and meetings? Then you should consider buying longer dining tables or large banquet tables. Is your theme more of a romantic setting? Then smaller tables are a must. Restaurants with a more formal dining theme should be going with high-backed chairs.

    Buy commercial grade

Don't make the mistake of buying residential quality furniture for a commercial environment such as a restaurant or cafe. Residential quality furniture will often not stand up to the hard wearing bar or restaurant environments. Commercial quality will ensure the joinery, hardware and other potential problem areas are of a sufficient standard for heavy use. If buying metal furniture go for fully welded where possible.

Consider maintenance requirements and go for quality

When choosing furniture for your restaurant, bar or cafe two of the chief considerations should be maintenance requirements and quality. Some materials require more maintenance and attention than others, and if you do not have the time to spend then this could affect your other operations. Low maintenance materials that deliver style and comfort include anodized aluminium, high quality polypropylene resin and powder coated steel. Wood requires more caring for and more staff education.

    Dual purpose furniture

If outdoor restaurant furniture is what you're looking for, it may not be best to invest in things that look strictly good outside. Dual purpose furniture exists to provide solutions that look equally in place indoors as they do outdoors. Materials such as high quality polypropylene or aluminium are indoor-outdoor neutral, working in either setting.
